Mahogany has been the standard wood for the Les Paul Special since 1955. As a tonewood, it has a strong midrange, which makes it an ideal platform for P-90s.
The Special has a set mahogany neck with a vintage 50s profile; the Indian laurel fretboard has 12″ radiusa familiar feel for fans of classic Gibson electrics. The updated headstock bears a closer resemblance to the Gibson design.
This Les Paul Special has 2 soap bar Pro P-90 single-coils, made to match Gibsons original specifications. This includes Elektrisola magnet wire, sand cast Alnico V magnets and tin-plated brass base plates. Voiced for rhythm and lead, they provide a wealth of vintage tones that work equally well in a modern context. The dual volume and tone controls use CTS pots for a smooth and accurate response.
The bridge on the Les Paul Special is a Lightning Bar wraparound with compensated saddles. Once modern concession: it’s designed for an unwound G-string, unlike original models. Epiphone Deluxe Vintage tuners with Ivory buttons complete the classic look of the Special.
Other high-quality specifications include a 5-ply pickguard, a Graph Tech nut, cream single-ply binding on the fretboard and a Modern Epiphone logo inlayed with mother of pearl on the headstock.
