The LeftCast snare is fitted with True-Cast steel hoops, lugs and throw-off for enhanced resonance and durability. At the heart of the LeftCast snare is a sand-cast bronze shell that produces a full, resonant tone with rich overtones. The shell’s 3-5mm thickness varies for an interior contour that opens the drum’s sound. The bronze material resonates freely for warm, fat depth and shimmering highs. To enhance the shell and differentiate it from the original TrueCast snare, DW opted for steel for the hoops, lugs, and throw-off. The True-Cast steel hoops are both lightweight and robust, improving resonance and sensitivity. The Mini-Turret lugs, previously solid brass, are now made of steel, as is the MAG throw-off, ensuring a crisp snare response. Even the tension rods have been replaced with steel ones. Collectively, these components are tonally harmonized with the bronze shell, resulting in a unified sound that resonates authentically.
Only 25 LeftCast snares were crafted, making each a rare find. But beyond their limited number, these snares have a story to tell. An “accident” in the manufacturing process resulted in the shells being “left-handed” or opposite the standard orientation.
