The Kala Soprano Ukulele Desert StoryLines Bushfoods by Margaret Bloomfield beautifully combines the craftsmanship of Kala with the rich storytelling tradition of Aboriginal art. Created in collaboration with Keringke Arts in Santa Teresa, Northern Territory, this ukulele celebrates the vibrant culture and artistry of Central Australia. Each instrument features genuine Aboriginal artwork by Margaret Bloomfield, depicting desert plants and bushfoods found in her Country.
This design, titled Bushfoods, illustrates the native foods often collected and eaten in the desert wild passionfruit (Arrutnenge), bush banana (Alangkwe), witchetty grubs, honey ants, and bush coconut. As Margaret shares, It is important to me to teach the young kids and pass on the knowledge the right way. Each ukulele is a musical tribute to that cultural wisdom and connection to Country.
Developed by Jacaranda Music and Kala Brand Music, the Desert StoryLines project supports the featured artists directly a 6% royalty from every sale goes to the artist through Keringke Arts. Each instrument comes with a Desert StoryLines logo bag and a swing tag detailing the story behind the artwork, making every ukulele both a musical instrument and a piece of cultural heritage.
